The official place to post federal job openings is usajobs.gov.
But we’re also allowed to post them on other online job sites. I’m guessing we’ll simply describe the jobs in plain language and then link to the usajobs listing.
So I’m looking for suggestions. Whatcha know?
Especially helpful would be links to articles or other lists where people rate the sites for # of users, ease of use, etc.
I’ll keep adding to the list below as people submit them via comments.
Thanks!
Sites I already know of:
- monster.com
- hotjobs.com
- indeed.com
- theladders.com
Jeffrey,
http://jobmatchbox.com/ is a DC centric tech job site.
Also, a new career site based off the popular tech Q&A Stackoverflow.com is: http://careers.stackoverflow.com/
We use http://idealist.org/ sometimes.
For environmental jobs, we’ve used
EcoEmploy.com: http://www.ecoemploy.com/
EnvironmentCareer.com: http://www.environmentalcareer.com/ and
Environmental Career Opportunities: http://www.ecojobs.com/
Jeffrey, don’t do the above sites: the quality of applicants will be pretty poor. And isn’t The Ladders restricted to $100,000+ jobs. (Is that what you’re offering?)
Try the following:
http://www.authenticjobs.com/
http://jobs.37signals.com/
http://jobs.smashingmagazine.com/
http://jobs.wired.com/
They all require payment to post, but the quality you get will be outstanding. (That’s based on hearsay.)
Finally, The StackOverflow is not a job posting site. Developers can post their CVs there, and employers can pay to search these CVs. You don’t post a job there, though.
Thanks, Mike.
I’m looking for as broad a range of sites as possible at the moment, so everything’s welcome.
But I really appreciate your thoughts on the various options!
Good point Michael. I guess I was thinking about sites that offer potentially higher quality candidates, like the ones you have listed.
LinkedIn requires pay, but you can post jobs for free in LinkedIn groups. GovLoop, of course, has produced great candidates from our listings.
Some gov agencies use city-specific craigslist sites.
I’d prefer LinkedIn….because if I see the ad anywhere else, I’m going to immediately visit LinkedIn to find a connection.
Linkedin is a great way to go– also linking to it on twitter with #jobs and a variety of other similar tags is a good way to spread the word.
Hi Jeffrey,
If it’s a communications related job, I know a lot of great job seekers use “Ned’s Jobs of the Week.”
Best,
Alex
http://www.MediaBistro.com! You have to sign up for a (free) account to access the listings, and they are also a media organization that reports on the…media.
Also….GovLoop?
